I feel like a horrible mother. My hubby wanted me to potty train our little one in the summer, she seemed ok with it. That only lasted a couple of days, lol. However about three months ago she started actually asking to go potty, even while we were out shopping. She was doing so well. She rarely even wet at night. However we really never got the poo in the potty all to often. Then here recently she started peeing in her panties all the time. Now she doesn't even want to put panties on she wants a diaper on and she doesn't want to go potty at all.
I suppose it's totally my fault. I started out with a timer, and enlisting the help of two of my daughters. But Hadassah refuses to sit on the potty for them anymore. She fights me as well. Once she was doing fairly well I got lax with the timer and I shouldn't have. She is our sixth little one to potty train, she is two and a half, this shouldn't be happening. I feel just awful because I have did the BIG No No and caved, I allowed her to win and put her back in a cloth diaper purely out of laziness. I was tired of the pee panties and tired of fighting her and I gave up. Ugh, I just don't know if it's even worth pushing her at this point. Maybe in the summer. That sounds terrible. I need some fire under my bum to get the enthusiasm back I had at first, cause I am just not feeling it anymore. Have any of you ever caved and took a break from potty training? Or am I the only one?
(yes that's her on the potty with a diaper on)
Oh no we have definitely done it. Some kids just aren't ready until later. Sydney is finally starting to some but it's not super regular yet and she is two years and five months old. You didn't do anything wrong because u can't really push potty training when they don't want to do it.
ReplyDeleteHey, I love the new layout!
ReplyDeleteI just want to say I found comfort in reading this since I got to see that even after rearing 7 kids they still like to throw you through a loop during potty training. I guess every kid is different and I think you should just be patient with yourself and your little trainee. It's not laziness, just shear exhaustion, right?! At least that's what I would think if I had 7 kids! Just get back on the horse with her and I'm sure everything will be fine :)
I'm sure many cave. I have only begun the very early stages of potty training with Lily, so I can't say I've "caved" yet.
Having a Sweet Saturday hop this weekend if you want to share http://jessica-healthymommyhealthybaby.blogspot.com/2012/02/sweet-saturday-blog-hop-3-this-chick-is.html
Every kid have their own way to adopt to potty training. So, be patient. I'm your newest follower via GFC. I'd be glad if you follow back. Tnx!

You could try keeping a dress or skirt on her with no diaper or panties. With Pean she went without her clothy and would usually go for the potty when she had to go.I hid all her diapers. You may have a few messes to clean up but it worked for us when she was 14months
ReplyDeletegive your self a break she will be going potty when she is ready, some times when there is a baby in the house the potty trainee will want to wear a diaper like the baby and so it takes a little longer you both will do fine.
ReplyDeletethank you all. I feel a bit better. Less pressure. I think I will give it a few days and give it another go
ReplyDelete:-)
I have six kids, and yes, I did take a break from potty training at times. It seems so long ago now that I potty trained--my youngest is 15.

ReplyDeleteHi! I'm a new follower. (I found you through Healthy Mommy, Healthy Baby)
ReplyDeleteI have six kids, and I too have taken a break with a couple of them. Sometimes (depending on the child) it helped to give them a clear set goal. With one of my daughters, I chose her birthday. I told her that when she is 3, she will be a big girl, and have to start wearing big girl underwear, and use the potty all the time. I made it sound special that she got to be a big girl when she turned 3. I kept it up for a couple of months, then about a month before her birthday, I started encouraging her to use the potty more. On her birthday, she decided that she indeed was now a big girl, and would not need diapers. She only had a few accidents, and by the end of the week, she was fully potty trained. The same sort of thing worked for one of my other daughters.
BUT, I tried the same type of goal with another one of my kids, and it didn't work at all. HAHAHAHA!
It's worth a shot, though.
Come check out my new blog, if you like. :-)
